About the event
In this masterclass, Andrea Pritzker MW and Markus Patz will guide participants through the evolving landscape of PIWI grape varieties. These disease-resistant vines represent a significant step towards sustainable viticulture, reducing the need for chemical interventions and adapting to the challenges posed by climate change.
The session will feature six wines directly shipped from Weingut Gustavshof, a pioneering German winery renowned for its commitment to biodynamic practices. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste and discuss wines made from the PIWI varieties: Johanniter, Sauvitage, Sauvignac, and Cabernet Cortis.
Adding a unique dimension to the event, winemaker Andreas Roll from Weingut Gustavshof will join us live from the vineyards via videolink. He will provide insights into their innovative “no pruning” training system and share firsthand experiences of cultivating PIWI varieties in a biodynamic setting. Markus Trapp will guide participants through the online tasting.
